Takwil Tajsim Verses (Study of Lafaz Yad and 'Ain in the Tafsir al-Mizan by Muhammad Husayn al-Tabataba'i)

Fitriyah, Muhammad Shodiq, Hadi Musolin, Muhammad Irhash Fakhruddin

Tajsim verses are verses in the Qur'an that explicitly describe the physical attributes of God. In response to this, in Indonesia, there are two theological schools of thought, Aswaja an-Nahdliyyah and Salafi Wahhabi, that passionately debate these tajsim verses, particularly regarding the terms yad (hand) and 'ain (eye). However, in Surah Ali Imran [3]: 7, Allah (Swt) indicates that some parts of the Qur'an are muhkam (clear and precise), while others are mutashabih (ambiguous). Based on this, the author believes that verses categorized as mutashabih, such as tajsim verses, should not be understood literally, as this may lead to theological consequences that could diminish the sovereignty and majesty of Allah (Swt). Therefore, the researcher finds it necessary to conduct qualitative research using the thematic method of studying a figure. The figure highlighted is Muhammad Husein al-Tabatabai. The research findings indicate that in interpreting tajsim verses with the terms Yad and 'Ain, al-Tabatabai emphasizes the figurative (majazi) aspect as a representation of God's power and supervision. Based on this, the Tafsir al-Mizan has the potential to facilitate dialogue between Aswaja Nahdliyyah, who believe in the depth of the meaning of the Qur'anic text without compromising the belief in God's oneness, and the Salafi Wahhabi, who tend to use the al-Itsbat method in understanding tajsim verses, thus tending to leave the text as is.

Al-Khizy in The Al-Qur`an Perspective of The Tafsir Al-Mishbah

Yulia Citra Nengsih, Tesya Lorenzia Putri, Rahma Nur Akbar, Elis Marini, Rusydi AM, Zulfi Akmal

The discussion of al-khizy in Tafsir al-Mishbah is significant due to its nuanced semantic range and thematic relevance. The term is interpreted not only as punishment, but also as psychological discomfort and defilement. Importantly, al-khizy is not limited to disbelievers; it may also apply to Muslims, making it a morally universal concept. This study therefore focuses on how Qur???anic verses containing al-khizy are interpreted in Tafsir al-Mishbah, with particular attention to its meaning, causes, affected individuals, and strategies for avoidance. Linguistically, al-khizy derives from the root khaziya???yakhz????khizyan, denoting disgrace or humiliation (Mahmud Yunus, 2010). Classical and modern sources, including Ensiklopedia al-Qur'an and Lisan al-Arab, expand its meaning to include degradation, separation, legal sanction, and moral disgrace (Quraish Shihab; Ibn Manzur). The term appears 26 times in the Qur???an across Makkiyah and Madaniyyah verses (Muhammad Fuad Abd al-Baqi), indicating its thematic importance within Qur???anic discourse on ethics and accountability. Compared to earlier studies based on Tafsir Ibn Kathir, which primarily interpret al-khizy as humiliation and defilement, this research highlights a broader conceptualization offered in Tafsir al-Mishbah. Quraish Shihab presents al-khizy as encompassing punishment, inner discomfort, and social disgrace, reflecting both textual depth and socio-cultural sensitivity. The choice of Tafsir al-Mishbah is therefore justified by its comprehensive scope, methodological consistency, and contextual relevance, making it a valuable framework for advancing the study of al-khizy.

The Role of the Father from Buya HAMKA's Perspective in Tafsir al-Azhar

Ayu Nelfiza, Yelmi, Buchari M, Icha Jasneli, Eslem Turgut

Fatherlessness refers to the minimal role of fathers in a child's development, often due to the assumption that fathers are tired from work and therefore unnecessarily involved in household chores and parenting. However, a father's presence significantly impacts a child's development. This study examines this issue in the Tafsir al-Azhar, focusing on Buya HAMKA's interpretation of a father's position, duties, and characteristics. The aim is to systematically explain these three aspects from Buya HAMKA's perspective. This research is a library research using the maud?'i method, focusing on the character of Buya HAMKA. The author refers to primary and secondary sources. The primary sources are the Qur'an and the al-Azhar Tafsir. The secondary sources are books, journals, and other sources related to the topic. The results of this thesis research are that; first, the position of the father according to Buya HAMKA is (1) a leader. This is found in Q.S. al-?aff?t: 100-102, the leadership attitude is seen from the story of the dialogue between the Prophet Ibrahim AS. and Ismail regarding the dream of the Prophet Ibrahim AS. to slaughter his son. And Q.S. at-Tarim: 6, namely the father is responsible for leading his family to avoid the torment of hell. (2) educator. This is found in Q.S. Luqm?n: 13-19. It can be seen in the advice given by Luqman to his son. Second, the duties of the father. The form of a father's duties in carrying out his responsibilities as a leader is to guard and protect his family, whose duty is to protect his wife and children from danger, both physical and moral, which is found in Q.S. at-Tarim: 6. Third, the nature of a father. The ideal role of a father as a leader, educator, and protector in the family, if he has the characteristics of being wise, fair, loving, patient, and exemplary in carrying out his responsibilities, will create a healthy, harmonious, and blessed environment.

Tracing the Word Al-Wail in the Qur'an Perspective of al-Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Raziy in al-Tafsir al-Kabir Mafatih al-Ghaib

Al-Fajri, Farid Fauzi, Muhammad Fadhil Mahfudz, Muhammad Faiz Husaini

Currently, the condition of Muslims often shows quite a distance from the guidelines taught by ustadz, either through lectures from the pulpit or other spiritual teachings. This phenomenon sometimes leads some of them to fall into the wrath of Allah SWT. Some of the problems that frequently arise include negligence in performing prayers, reluctance to engage in dhikr, and committing shirk and injustice. These issues are a serious concern for all of us.

This article aims to examine in depth the concept of al-wail in the Qur'an according to the views of al-Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Razi. In addition, it discusses the causes of al-wail, the groups of people who are subject to it, as well as practical steps to avoid it, based on the explanations found in his tafsir.

This research employs a qualitative approach with a focus on literature review or library research. The method relies on written sources without involving fieldwork. The author uses a maudhui (thematic) approach to explore the topic of al-wail. As a first step, the primary focus is on the views of al-Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Razi as presented in his tafsir, al-Tafsir al-Kabir Mafatih al-Ghaib. The analysis is further strengthened by references to other relevant books and texts related to the topic.

The findings of this study identify eleven causes of al-wail and explain the categories of individuals who are subject to it. Furthermore, this article outlines seven effective strategies to avoid al-wail, offering practical preventive measures that can be applied in daily life. Among the identified causes are: (i) falsifying the holy book, (ii) disbelief, (iii) lying against Allah SWT, (iv) injustice, (v) hypocrisy, (vi) a hardened heart that refuses to remember Allah, (vii) polytheism, (viii) disobedience to parents, (ix) cheating in measurement, (x) cursing and excessive criticism, and (xi) negligence in prayer.

Tafsir Ahkam Rawai' Al-Bayan by Muhammad 'Ali Al-Sabuni

Hendra Syafrianto, Agus Widianto, Abdulhamid Ahmad Mahmud Faqir, Sobhan

One of the notable contemporary works of tafsir that focuses specifically on legal verses (ayat al-ahkam) is Rawai al-Bayan fi Tafsir Ayat al-Ahkam min al-Quran, authored by the Syrian scholar Muhammad Ali al-Sabuni. Al-Sabuni, who completed both his undergraduate and postgraduate studies at al-Azhar University in Cairo???one of the oldest and most prestigious centers of Islamic learning???brings a strong traditional scholarly foundation to his work. In composing this tafsir, he employed a systematic and rigorous methodology. He began by examining classical exegetical sources, linguistic analyses, and relevant hadith literature, engaging deeply with the opinions of earlier mufassirin (Qur???anic commentators). Only after this extensive process of study, comparison, and critical discussion did he articulate his own interpretations.

The book is particularly significant for its focus on extracting legal rulings from the Qur???an, presenting them in a structured and accessible manner while still maintaining engagement with classical scholarship. However, despite its scholarly contributions, al-Sabuni???s work has not been free from controversy. Some Saudi scholars, particularly those aligned with Wahhabi interpretations, have criticized and refuted aspects of his methodology and conclusions. As a result of these critiques and broader theological disagreements, his works have faced restrictions and have been banned from circulation by the Saudi government. This tension highlights ongoing debates within contemporary Islamic scholarship regarding interpretive authority, methodological approaches, and doctrinal differences.

Tafsir of Al-Qur'an Verses about Allah's Tests to the Prophet Ayyub Alaihissalam

Muallimatul Qurani Ilma, Rusydi AM, Nanda Aurelia, Yelmi

The problems raised in this research are: How did Allah test Prophet Ayyub Alaihissalam in the Qur'an, the method taken by Prophet Ayyub a.s. in facing tests, and what ibrah (lessons) can be taken from the story of the Prophet Ayub a.s. This research is a type of library research, while the method used is thematic interpretation method, and the main sources are the Al-Qur'an and tafsir books. Additional sources are books related to this research. Researchers examined the verses of the Qur'an which include Allah's test to the Prophet Ayub a.s. in the Al-Qur'an, and after analyzing the verses of the Al-Qur'an and the interpretations of the commentators, researchers concluded that the trials that befell the Prophet Ayub (a.s.) in the Al-Qur'an consisted of three parts: the loss of all his wealth, separation from his children, and a serious illness that befell his body. The Prophet Job's attitude in facing these trials consisted of five attitudes, namely: extraordinary patience, gratitude for what befell him, always remembering Allah, not complaining, and continuing to pray and praise Allah. Then, at the end of the study, the researcher took lessons from the story of the Prophet Job (peace be upon him), namely: patience in facing trials, gratitude in all circumstances, the importance of remembrance and prayer to Allah, not despairing of Allah's mercy, and the belief that Allah does not forget His pious servants.

Farid Fauzi, Nurus Shalihin, Firdaus, Hadi Musolin

This study aims to map the main trends and themes in the study of cognitive dissonance based on the analysis of articles from various international journals. Mapping is done based on the year of publication and the thematic focus of studies that apply cognitive dissonance theory. The results of the study show that the use of this theory has increased significantly in the last three years, namely in 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025. The trend of utilizing cognitive dissonance theory is mainly found in the fields of sociology, psychology, politics, and economics. However, no research has been found that applies this theory in religious studies, especially in the study of the interpretation of the Qur'an. Therefore, this study offers a new approach by integrating cognitive dissonance theory in discourse analysis and the dynamics of the interpretation of the Qur'an as a contribution to the development of methodology in Islamic studies.
